St. Paul Winter Carnival Food & Fund Drive

Supporters of the Winter Carnival are teaming up with 2nd Harvest Heartland in the fight against hunger during the St. Paul Winter Carnival, Jan. 23-Feb. 3, 2008. People coming to St. Paul for Winter Carnival activities are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for 2nd Harvest Heartland. Food items can be dropped off in the marked collection bins located at numerous businesses in downtown St. Paul:

  • Lawson Building
  • 180 East 5th Street
  • 55 East 5th Street
  • 101 East 5th Street, #2626
  • 111 E Kellogg Blvd, #120
  • 380 Jackson Street, #251
  • 400 N Robert Sreet, #222
  • 445 Minnesota Street (Town Square)

     

 Financial Donations can also be made at any Bremer Bank location.

 Background facts (from 2nd Harvest Heartland):

  • 78% of the food shelves, 52% of the soup kitchens and 44% of the shelters have seen an increase in users

  • There were more than 1.8 million visits to Minnesota food shelves in 2006, up from 1.7 million in 2005

  • For every $1 donated, 2nd Harvest Heartland can provide $9 worth of grocery products to local families

  • Second Harvest Heartland provides food and grocery products to nearly 950 member agencies and programs throughout 59 counties in Minnesota and western Wisconsin

  • Second Harvest Heartland distributes 30 million pounds of food annually
